Theme:
Social networking for agricultural research, education, and extension service: an international perspective
The IFLA Agricultural Libraries Special Interest Group in association with the International Association of Agricultural Information Specialists (IAALD) invites papers for presentation at IFLA General Conference, Helsinki, Finland in August 2012.
Social networking is a hawkeyed phrase. It is a tool to connect people to people. Agricultural research, education, and extension are establishing connections with one to one and many to many in sharing and exchange of information. The advent of Internet has greatly facilitated and reinforced these connections by a variety of social network sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Blog, Flicker, Ning etc.
The session will focus on pragmatic approach on the role of social media as a catalyst in establishing connections for advancing agriculture.
Proposals must focus on one or more of the following topics with reference to the country/ region/ institution:

Theme:
Education and training for agricultural library and information professionals: an international perspective
Focus
Papers are invited to be presented at 79th IFLA General Conference and Assembly, Singapore, in August 2013 on the theme: Education and Training for Agricultural Library and Information Professionals: an International Perspective.
For advancing agricultural production, universities, colleges and research centers focusing on agriculture, animal husbandry, veterinary science, diary technology and allied subjects have been established in large number. Concurrently, agricultural libraries and information centers in some form or the other are in operation. This session is aimed at finding the perceived education and training needs of agricultural librarians and information professionals and the opportunities available for furthering their expertise.
Proposals must focus on one or more of the following topics:
1.Distinctive features of agriculturists in teaching, research, and extension and the role of librarians in meeting their information needs
2.Perceived education and training needs of agricultural librarians and information personnel
3.Key issues confronted in providing agriculture-specific education and training in LIS schools in the country or region
4.Opportunities for furthering subject-specific specialization in agriculture for librarians
Submission Guidelines
Proposal abstract (max 1000 words) must be submitted by January 30, 2013, on any one or more of the topics listed above, with the topic to be discussed clearly identified by number from list above. Submission is to include presenter's name, position, institution, and email address.

January 30, 2013: Deadline for submitting abstracts
February 30, 2013: Deadline for notifications of acceptance
May 15, 2013: Deadline for submission of final papers

All proposals must be in before 30 January 2013.
Please note
All expenses, including registration for the conference, travel, accommodation etc., are the responsibility of the authors/presenters. No financial support can be provided by IFLA, but a special invitation can be issued to authors.
Congress Attendance Grants
The Singapore National Committee and IFLA have worked hard to secure funds for Conference Participation Grants. Up-to-date information will be available on our Conference Participation Grants webpage.
Agricultural Libraries Section - Approved by IFLA
ReplyDeleteI am happy to share that my proposal to establish Agricultural Libraries Section of IFLA has been approved by the Governing Board which met at Hague, Netherlands on 8-10, December 2014.
I worked for it for the past 11 years starting as a special interest group (SIG) and finally succeeded in having a place for Agriculture on IFLA map of its 85 years history .
It is said that “Everything else can wait but not Agriculture” .

"Agricultural Libraries and Information Services in attaining UN Sustainable Development Goals with Special Reference to Women in Agriculture"
Papers are invited to be presented at the Open Session of the Agricultural Libraries Special Interest Group to be held during the IFLA World Library and Information Congress (WLIC) and 83rd IFLA General Conference and Assembly at Wroclaw, Poland from 19-25 August 2017.
Proposal abstract (about 1000 words) must be submitted by 20 February 2017 on any of the topics listed, with the topic to be discussed clearly identified.
Submission is to include author’s name, position, institution, and email address.
Important dates
20 February 2017: Deadline for submitting abstract
20 March 2017: Notification of acceptance of the proposal
20 May 2017: Deadline for submission of final paper, no more than 3,000 words. Papers can be submitted in any of the official IFLA languages: Arabic, Chinese, Chinese, French, German, Spanish, Russian, but an accompanying translation of all papers into English must be provided.
