Call for Papers — Open Sessions Agricultural Libraries Special Interest Group

Theme: "Emerging Trends in Internet -based Information Services for Urban and Rural Agricultural Development: an international perspective"
The IFLA Agricultural Libraries Special Interest Group plans to contribute to this year’s WLIC theme of “Transform Libraries, Transform Societies” by highlighting how “urban farmers” have contributed in reaping  social and economic benefits in urban families by way of production, marketing and sharing of produce.
Papers are invited to be presented at the Open Session of the Agricultural Libraries Special Interest Group to be held during the IFLA World Library and Information Congress (WLIC) and 84th IFLA General Conference and Assembly at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 24-30 August 2018. 

The topics to be addressed include:

  • What are the information needs of urban farmers and how they are different from rural farmers?
  • How do libraries in the country/region cater to the information needs of urban farmers in advancing agricultural production and marketing of produce?
  • How do extension personnel/agencies/companies help in keeping the urban farmers in meeting their information needs?
  • What is the mechanism that exists to serve the farmers in supplying inputs for urban agricultural development?
  • The role of Web based (Internet based) information services in meeting the information needs of urban farmers

Submission Guidelines

Proposal abstract (about 1000 words) must be submitted by deadline of 15 February 2018 on any of the topics listed, with the topic to be discussed clearly identified. 
Proposal must focus on one of the topics mentioned above, based on facts rather than theoretical aspects. Submission is to include author’s name, position, institution, and email address.

Important dates

15 February 2018: Deadline for submitting abstract
10 March 2018: Notification of acceptance of the proposal
20 May 2018: Deadline for submission of final paper, no more than 3,000 words. Papers can be submitted in any of the official IFLA languages: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Spanish, Russian, but an accompanying translation of all papers into English must be provided.
